After capturing his 6,000th career driving win earlier in the week, Larry Stalbaum notched a training hat trick — capped by Miss Irish Rose A's victory in the featured Fillies and Mares Open — on the Wednesday (July 29) program at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
The eight-year-old daughter of McArdle went coast to coast in a 1:54.2 score, her third in the local Open for distaffers this season. As the 3-2 favourite, Miss Irish Rose A and trainer-driver Stalbaum held off late charge from pocket rival Thats Incredible (Billy Dobson) and Surreal Feeling (Jay Randall), who finished second and third respectively.
Stalbaum, who ended the week with eight driving wins and five training wins, also guided his trainees Jericho Diva and Abby Rose to victory on the Wednesday card.
Live racing at Saratoga takes place next week on Monday (Aug. 3) and Tuesday (Aug. 4) afternoons at 12 noon, and on Wednesday evening (Aug. 5) at 7:15 p.m.
