Saulsbrook Balance marched to the front and didn’t look back en route to an impressive-looking score in Thursday’s $1,500 Open Trot at the Charlotte Driving Park.

In rein to Willie Murphy, Saulsbrook Balance shot to immediate command from post four and rolled the field through panels of :30.1, 1:01.1 and 1:31.3 before using a :29.2 closing panel as the knockout punch. He cruised under the line with three lengths to spare over Dunmore Alpha. Katies Victory took home third prize in the affair.

The 2:01 triumph helped the six-year-old son of Nikes Image-Animated Lady improve this year’s record to 3-2-1 in eight tries. Trainer Cynthia MacDonald co-owns the 32-time winner with PEI partner Tanya MacKinnon. The trotter has banked more than $73,000 to date.

A eavy rain downpour hit the track later in the evening and washed out the turn, and as a result officials were forced to cancel the card following the eighth race.
