A set of $14,000 Preferred tilts accompanied a host off O.S.S. Grassroots divisions at Rideau Carleton Raceway, with Mats Havin A Ball and Perfect Vacation winning

their respective assignments.

Mats Havin A Ball delivered on his 4-5 pari-mutuel promise in the Preferred Pace for driver Darrell Coville and owner/trainer Brenda Spence. The six-year-old son of Presidential Ball brushed to the lead in the second quarter and led the field through middle splits of :55.2 and 1:24.2 en route to a 1:53.3 score. Imjustalittleguy (Ted McDonald) was second best and Montreal Phil (Stephane Gendron) was third.

It was the pacer’s eighth win of the season, and it was the 19th of his career. The $74,759 he has put away this season has pushed his lifetime bankroll in excess of $192,000.

Perfect Vacation went to the front and didn’t look back in the Preferred Trot. John MacDonald guided the Richard Moreau pupil through fractions of :28.1, 1:00 and 1:28.2 before finishing off the competition with a :28.2 final quarter. He drew clear to win by a pair of lengths in 1:57.1 over Ironclad (Per Henriksen) and Star Ruffnready (Rheo Filion).

Sean Hibbert of Corbyville, ON holds the papers on the seven-year-old son of Dream Vacation, who is now 6-for-19 this season. The 21-time winner has banked in excess of $267,000 in his career.
