An historical mile was turned in at Fredericton Raceway during the Canada Day matinee thanks to the 1:54 speedshow put on by pacer All Turain.
The five-year-old son of Tell All-Tura Hanover lowered his own track record for older pacing geldings by a full second, and produced the fastest mile in the history of Fredericton Raceway.
All Turain shot to the top in the $5,000 Walter Dale Memorial Pace for driver Brodie MacPhee, and together they successfully sliced out splits of :28.2, :57.1 and 1:25.1 before roaring home in :28.4 to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Modern Xhibit. Third prize went to Art Of Illusion.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, All Turain won for the fifth time this season from just six trips postward. Trainer Trevor Hicken of Montague, PEI shares ownership on the career winner of $78,417 with Lee Hicken of Charlottetown, PEI.
Trainer/driver Mike Campbell found his way to the winner’s circle three times on the 12-race card. He captured Race 2 with R Es Confusion (2:02.4), Race 7 with Rose Valley (1:57.4) and Race 9 with American Captain (1:58.2).
