Cruisinart led every step of the way en route to a season’s best score in Saturday afternoon’s $1,000 Winners Over Pace at Northside Downs

.

Cruisinart and driver Ryan Campbell left from the inside post and cruised through fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:26.4 without facing any pressure until the stretch drive when the first over Woodmere Westerner (Greg Bailey) unleashed a threatening final kick to come within a half-length of the leader as he hit the wire in 1:56.4. Even-money favourite Shifty Shadow (Edgar Jacobs) finished third.

Cruisinart paid $8.60 to win as the 3-1 third choice. The seven-year-old gelded son of Real Artist-Yieldtotheprincess is trained by Ken Rich for owner Johnny Heffernan of Reserve Mines, NS. The gelding, who has yet to finish worse than fourth in six outings this year, picked up his second victory.
