Bolero Charles Upsets

Bolero Charles overcame his 12-1 odds and outside post assignment to win the $40,000 Preferred Pace Saturday at Mohawk Racetrack

With Randy Waples in the bike, the seven-year-old son of Jennas Beach Boy shot off the gate and led the field past each interval of :25.3, :53.2 and 1:21.2, all the while extending his lead to eight and a half lengths by the top of the stretch. Bolero Charles then coasted home in :28.4 to win in 1:50.1.

Anderlecht closed well from the back of the pack to finish five and a half lengths back in second while Acceptable Risk (Jack Moiseyev) rounded out the top three.

Trained by Stephen Charlton for the Larocque Racing Stable of Thornhill, Ont., Bolero Charles picked up his sixth win of the year in 19 races bringing his earnings to $133,470. The bay’s 22nd career win bumped his total bankroll to $326,780.
