It has been reported that a harness racecaller has been fired in relation to an altercation with a racegoer in March.
According to an article by The West Australian, veteran Down Under announcer Dave Sheehan has been relieved of his duties by Racing and Wagering WA
Last month, the 52-year-old pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge and paid a $1,500 fine and addition court costs. Sheehan then ended up paying another $1,500 in fines to the RWWA in relation to the incident.
The report explains that Sheehan has now been let go by the racing organization. "I was asked to go into the RWWA offices and was given a letter of dismissal," the article has quoted Sheehan as saying.
The article also states that in the incident, according to Sheehan, he was in the betting ring as a favour to a horse owner when a fan began assaulting him with a fold-up chair. He responded by striking him.
The article has quoted RWWA GM of Human Resources Linda Munro as saying that Sheehan, "breached our code of conduct for general staff and code of conduct of race callers."
