Even though Promesses Imperial has won his last two races, horseman Jerome Lombart is not resting on his laurels. As he looks down the road a bit, Lombart has said that his Imperial Angus colt will have to improve if he is to defeat one of the division’s top performers.

Promesses Imperial will look to extend his unbeaten streak to three on Wednesday (June 17) at the Hippodrome 3R for Lombart, who, in addition to driving, also owns his homebred performer.

Promesses Imperial is out of the Promising Catch mare Flirts Dancer. The pupil of trainer Andreane LaPierre has won two of his three starts so far this year and is looking for more. The brown colt has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite for Wednesday’s sixth race at Hippodrome 3R, which is the featured trotting event on the card.

“He has done well now,” said Lombart, a resident of Bromont, Quebec. “He didn’t break any records the last two races, but he has improved very much.”

Promeeses Imperial has gone gate to wire in both of his seasonal wins, each of which were clocked in 2:03.2. Lombart does have hope that his colt will continue to improve and be ready for the Quebec-Bred Series that gets underway throughout the month of July.

“He will have to get much better in order to compete with Intouchable,” Lombart explained. “That colt just won his first start of the year at Rideau Carlton in 1:58.3! He is a full brother to the top horse Maximuscle, who just won the $35,000 Quebec-Bred Series at ‘3R’ on Sunday.

“I just have to hope that there are enough horses to go two divisions,” Lombart said. “And that we draw into the other division. If we do have to race again this good colt then we will try out best.

“My horse can race from behind,” Lombart said. “But the field needs to be going some in the front or else I have to move with him. And if we get in the same race with Untouchable, then we will see what happens. He should get better each time he races.”

Other contenders in the race include Erge Jack (Post 4), SOS Robocop (Post 8) and Bouffon P V (Post 1).

Promesses Imperial is the only three-year-old in the field.

Hippodrome 3R’s Wednesday night program will get underway at 7 p.m.
