Two-year-olds received some further education – including how to deal with a "sloppy" track – during thirteen baby qualifiers at Harrah’s Philadelphia Tuesday morning (June 14).
The highlights, grouped by horses of the same gait and sex:
TWO-YEAR-OLD TROTTING FILLIES – The same driver, trainer, and owner swept the two events for fillies; the team of driver Tim Tetrick, trainer Jim Campbell and owner Fashion Farms LLC combined.
The faster was the Donato Hanover-Fashion Athena miss Fashion Annie, who went to the leader past the quarter and defeated Quick Stop by a half length in 2:01. Also scoring for this triumvirate of backers was the Possess The Will-Friendly Fashion filly Fine Wine Fashion, going slower in the engine but winning easily in 2:04.2.
TWO-YEAR-OLD TROTTING COLTS – Team Tetrick and Campbell also won both of the races for diamond-gaited colts with Fashion Farms LLC getting a triple in the overall trotting ranks.
The Walner-Tamgo Donato colt Waldo Fashion was in front at every pole while coming home in :29.1 to complete a 2:02 victory. Tetrick and Campbell completed their trot sweep with the Father Patrick-Sherrys Lady colt Once In A Lifetime, who flowed home in :29.1 in stopping the timer in 2:03.2 for owner Sherry and Emily Floren.
TWO-YEAR-OLD PACING COLTS – Among four divisions for the baby pacing colts, the fastest winner was the only freshman to become a two-time winner on the card, the Lazarus N-L Dees Lioness gelding Lifes A Puzzle, who came home in :56.3-:28.1 to stop the timer in 1:55.3. Jim King Jr. conditions the promising freshman for owner Richard Humphries; the driver was, again, Tim Tetrick.
Driver Andrew McCarthy and trainer Roland Mallar had a double with pacing colts, both timed in 2:00.1, with the Betterthancheddar-Late Flyin N colt Midnight Nation and the Captaintreacherous-HJs Justine colt.
TWO-YEAR-OLD PACING FILLIES – Fastest among five young filly winners was the Heston Blue Chip-Fourbyfour Hanover miss Square Deal, who dashed home in :27.1 to stop the clock in 1:57 for trainer Michael Hall, co-owner with Always For Sale Stable, and driver Tim Tetrick.
Driver Dexter Dunn, trainer Chris Ryder, sire Sweet Lou, and the partnership of Let It Ride Stables Inc. and Bottom Line Racing LLC had two pacing distaffs tally: Proud Mary (out of Tug River Princess), closing strongly to win in 1:57.2, and Butterfingers (out of Drop The Ball), home first in 2:00.4.
