After coming up a neck short in last week’s $11,000 Preferred event at Sudbury Downs, veteran trotter Speedy Desperado made sure to get the job done in this week’s edition

.

The nine-year-old son of Wesgate Crown got away fourth from Post 3 with Richard Turcotte in the driver’s seat. Using his nifty come-from-behind tactics, Speedy Desperado moved first up by the third quarter station and collared pacesetter Broadway Seelster (Mike Mac Neill) before the stretch. The fan favourite then held off Suzys Solitaire (Allan Hohner) down the lane to win in 2:02.2 by a quarter-length. Roan Star (Paul Maclean) finished third.

Making his second start for trainer Philippe Belanger, Speedy Desperado claimed his 12th lifetime score and bumped his bankroll over the $100,000 mark for owner Margaret Wilcox of Midland, Ont.
