Balder Son ($2.50) lived up to fours-on billing in his City of London elimination on Wednesday night (May 22) at The Raceway at Western Fair District, posting a 1:55.3 victory to prove fastest among 25 Ontario-sired male pacers.

Jody Jamieson set the three-year-old Betterthancheddar gelding into motion out of third nearing a :58.3 half mile from Century Fury (Nick Steward) in the night's fourth $7,000 elimination, carded as race eight. After offering mild pressure on the far turn, Balder Son edged away to a 1-1/2 length victory, the second of his career for trainer Gregg McNair and owner Roderick Smith. He and Century Fury will advance to the $20,000 added final, to take place on May 31.

The win with Balder Son capped a City of London double for Jamieson, who posted a 1:57 win aboard Surprising Credit ($5.90) in the first split for male pacers. Silas Seelster ($2.50, Paul MacDonell, 1:57) and Camsking ($2.20, Scott Young, 1:57.2) proved victorious in their eliminations as well.

Among Ontario-sired pacing fillies and mares, Sporty Tori ($2.70) posted an impressive 1:56.1 win in the third $7,000 elimination (race nine). Trainer Gord McKnight angled the sophomore Sportswriter filly out from midfield and around stalled cover before coasting clear by three lengths over the late-closing Persistant Xample (Robert Shepherd).

Significance ($3.30, Colin Kelly, 1:57) and Dan Dar Mal ($9.10, Robert Shepherd, 1:58.4) prevailed in the earlier distaff eliminations to lead next Friday's $20,000 added final.

Ontario-sired trotters contest their City of London eliminations on Friday (May 24).
