Back from a stateside soujourn, Sandbetweenurtoes won the Mohawk meet's first Preferred event of the 2017 harness racing season on Good Friday (April 14).

With little luck in Yonkers Raceway's Blue Chip Matchmaker Series, Sandbetweenurtoes returned to Canada where she has been a a powerful force in the Preferred ranks on the WEG Circuit for driver Doug McNair, trainer Richard Moreau and local owner Bradley Grant.

Sent postward as the 7-5 favourite in Friday's $30,000 filly and mare affair, Sandbetweenurtoes swept from third to first after a :27.1 opening quarter and carved out middle splits of :55.4 and 1:24.1. Despite drifting out in the stretch, the six-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere and Als Girl held off inside closers P L Hurricane (Randy Waples) and Much Adoo (Trevor Henry) to win by half a length in 1:51.1. Rallying home on the far outside from the back of the six-pack, Request For Parole (Ed Hensley) edged out Bernadette (Louis-Philippe Roy) to pick up the final paycheques ahead of their first-up foe Exhilarated (Jonathan Drury).

Sandbetweenurtoes has earned $88,100 from 10 starts this year and boasts a seasonal scorecard reading 4-3-1. The victory was her 25th lifetime and bumped her career earnings to $868,322.
