Uncle Shank A showed some serious speed in his first season of North American competition in 2023, and the now seven-year-old pacer is showing more serious speed in advance of his return to action in 2024.

After finishing a fast-closing second in his seasonal debut one week ago, Uncle Shank A impressed on the engine during his tune-up on Friday, March 8 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. James MacDonald asked the son of Warrawee Needy - Presidential Night to carve out all the fractions and the veteran sidewheeler willingly obliged. The initial fractions were :27.4, :57.1 and 1:24.4 before a :26.3 closer sealed the deal in a 1:51.2 mile — four seconds swifter than his 2024 qualifying debut a week ago. Frankie Frankie (Sylvain Filion) closed well in the lane to finish second, three parts of a length back.

Chantal Mitchell conditions Uncle Shank A, a career winner of $152,483, for Kevin Harvey of Halifax, N.S. He took his mark of 1:49.2 in his Canadian debut last August.
