The twisting tale of Auckland Reactor and horseman Mark Purdon at the 2009 Interdominion has taken another turn, as the trainer-driver has dropped his appeal and

another pilot has been retained to steer the son of Mach Three in Saturday's $1.2 million (AUS.) Grand Final on Queensland's Gold Coast.

An article on the Herald Sun states that Victorian driver Gavin Lang will be navigating Auckland Reactor. The 49-year-old has been quoted as saying the assignment is the opportunity of a lifetime.

"I speak at quite a few sportsman's nights and am often asked what's the best horse I've driven," the Herald Sun has quoted the pilot as saying. "That'll be an easy after I drive Auckland Reactor."

The report also states that Purdon has dropped his appeal against a six-week driving he was handed stemming from a drive in a preliminary Interdominion leg.
