Fresh on the heels of winning 2010 Horse of the Year honours in Alberta, pacing mare River Lass will test the waters in Ontario in 2011

.

In a recent interview with the The Beaumont News, trainer and co-owner Kelly Hoerdt indicated that the four-year-old mare will head to a new stable in Ontario for better racing opportunities.

"There's really no big events for her as a four-year-old in Alberta," said Hoerdt. "She has potential to earn more money in Ontario."

River Lass won 13 of 23 starts as a sophomore earning over $226,000 for Hoerdt, who also co-owns with fellow Beaumont resident Blair Corbeil.

The daughter of As Promised-Brass Buttons’s biggest victories came in the $100,000 Battle of Alberta Super Final and the $75,000 ASHA Breeders Stake. She was also a close second in the $100,000 Western Filly Pace. Her top notch efforts on the track also earned her ASHA's Three-Year-Old Alberta Sired Filly title.

"She was better in her own class than any of the other horses were in their class," commented Hoerdt on the Horse of the Year title, one that had eluded Hoerdt and Corbeil in past years.

"It's pretty gratifying," said Corbeil. "It's nice to get recognized for all the hard work, the investments and all you do for the industry."
