For veteran horseman Per Henriksen, it was certainly worth the drive to Gloucester, Ontario on Thursday night.
Henriksen, who earned the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship in 2009, trucked three trotters to Rideau Carleton Raceway and all three of them found their way to victory lane.
Aden Hanover (1:58.4) was the first to strike a pose in the winner’s circle for Henriksen, who guided the four-year-old son of Andover Hall to an 11-length score in Race 2. Two races later it was that one’s stablemate, Hartmann (2:00), who eked out a head decision in Race 4. The son of Like A Prayer was sent off as the 1-2 favourite.
Broadway Goal (2:00.2) had no problem getting the job done in Race 8, and in doing so he completed Henriksen’s hat trick. The four-year-old son of Broadway drew clear to win by more than a pair of lengths despite being parked for the majority of the mile.
The Norwood, Ontario horseman has sent out 592 winners while stashing away in excess of $9.6 million in the process. His barn has banked more than $1 million in each of the last three seasons.
