A spokesman for Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte has said that the 73-year-old former pilot is recovering in hospital after having suffered two broken legs in a March 9 accident which occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway near Four Falls, New Brunswick.

An article on usatoday.com has quoted the spokesman, Leonard Lusky, as saying that Turcotte is in “great spirits” and that he has been in contact with fellow retired jockeys Eddie Maple and Pat Day during his recovery.

Lusky was cited as saying that there is no plans to release Turcotte from hospital any time soon.

Turcotte was paralyzed in a racing accident during a 1978 contest at Belmont Park in New York.
