Modern Family disposed of five rivals en route to a 1:54.1 triumph in the $20,000 Open Handicap Trot over a 'good' track on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at Dover Downs.

Daryl Bier guided Modern Family into the lead at the quarter and led throughout the mile posting his 14th career victory in 39 starts and lifting his earnings to $283,822. Bier, Charles Dombeck and Rich Poillucci own the five-year-old Cantab Hall-Domestic Diva horse. Enrico AS, driven by Allan Davis, closed quickly on the outside to take second while veteran Green Day and Vic Kirby hustled along the passing lane for a close-up third.

Tim Tetrick returned to the racing following his recent hip surgery. Tetrick won two races, but it was Trace Tetrick, Tim’s brother, who drove winners, both in races in which Tim drove.

Trace Tetrick’s second winner came in the $15,000 Winners Over Trot behind Jersey Boy, a Yankee Glide-Atlanta Games gelding, in 1:56.2. Spunky Jack (Roger Plante) came within a head of the winner to finish second. Baximum (Bier) closed for third. Powerful Charger (Tim Tetrick) was fourth. Jersey Boy is trained by Ed Gannon for Dom Costanzo, Yannick Gingras and Dawn Gannon. The win was his first of 2014 in four starts.

Sent off at odds of 11-1, Amiga Valley got up for Montrell Teague’s second winning drive. Trained by Brian Wessells for Mike Mammes, the Amigo Hall-Crystas Chip mare closed along the passing lane to edge Royal Malinda (Ross Wolfenden) in 1:56 in a $12,500 conditioned trot. Looking Hanover (Ron Pierce) was the show horse.

After driving Haulin Laser to third-place in a $9,000 trot won by brother Trace, Tim Tetrick reined Powerful Charger to a fourth.

“I was a little rusty, but it won’t take long to get back," said Tim, who last raced in December before hip surgery.

Corey Callahan had a ‘grand-slam’ winning four races.

Dancin Yankee and Special Forces lead the $30,000 Preferred/Handicap while All Stienam and Sunshine Superman head the $27,500 Delaware Special, the Thursday twin feature races.
