After failing to hit the board in three tries at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Ed and Ashleigh Hensley's Toot Toot N ($4.70) got back in the win column on Sunday night (Feb. 24) at Flamboro Downs, taking the featured $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace.
The eight-year-old Gotta Go Cullen gelding dueled early with Ufdragons Rocket (Marc St. Louis) through a torrid :27.2 first quarter before taking command outright on the second turn. After rating a :56.1 half, he opened up a commanding 4-1/2 length lead up the far side, leaving pocket rival Lets Wait And See (Colin Kelly) well behind through the final turn.
Well past three-quarters in 1:26, Boomboom Ballykeel (Brett MacDonald), who circled three-wide from last up the far side, worked into second and closed to within three lengths of the lead at the eighth pole. Despite late deceleration, Toot Toot N persevered, protecting victory by a neck in 1:58.1. Boomboom Ballykeel was a strong second, while Print Media (Louis-Philippe Roy) checked in third, 3-1/2 lengths farther back.
Ed Hensley drove Toot Toot N to his second seasonal win, and the 20th of his career, while Ashleigh Hensley handles the training duties.
