Longtime Bangor horse racing official Jean Thayer will assume the racing secretary position when the track kicks off its 2023 racing season on May 3.
Thayer has worked at Bangor for more than 20 years in variety of racing office positions including assistant racing secretary, charter and program director. She has also worked as the assistant racing secretary at First Tracks Cumberland.
“Naming Jean to the position of race secretary was an easy decision to make,” said Michael Hopkins, Bangor Live Racing Manager. “She has been the assistant for over 20 years to some of the most knowledgeable race secretaries in the harness racing industry including Fred Nichols and most recently Paul Verrette. Jean has a great rapport with the horsemen of Maine and we look forward to a successful 2023 racing season with her at the helm."
Bangor’s 39-date racing season will run through Nov. 4. The complete 2023 racing calendar for Bangor Raceway is available at the Hollywood Casino Bangor website. Racing and Stall Applications for the 2023 race meet will be posted online in the coming weeks.
