73-1 Upsetter To Repeat?

Vickie Desomer has confirmed that when Gee Up shocked her stakes rivals at 73-1 two weeks ago at Cal-Expo it was the biggest-priced winner ever sent out by 'Team Desomer.' The three-year-old daughter of Power Of Art will be attempting to notch another win Saturday, December 11. Etienne Desomer is scheduled to be in the sulky.

Vickie is realistic, however, when she accesses the chances of a repeat victory by her charge.

“I’m not sure that she was very good that night, but the others seemed off their game and we were the beneficiaries. Having said that, she does give her best week after week.”

By capturing that sire stakes event, Gee Up has added another accolade for her dam, Gee Gee Girl, who has proven to be one of the best producers in recent memory.

“Gee Up is the kind of unexpected bonus that keeps us coming back year after year,” Vickie noted.

Gee Gee Girl, a now 16-year-old daughter of Dignatarian, has had seven offspring reach the races and they have all been successful. The leading money-earner of the group is Gee Gee Whiz, her first to the wars who retired with $209,000 in the bank and a 1:54.1 mark.

There is a carryover of $1,341 going into Cal-Expo's Thursday night Pick 5. The 50-cent minimum wager takes place during Race 5 through 9.

Live racing will resume at Cal-Expo on Thursday, December 9 and will continue through Saturday, December 11. Approximate first-race post time on Thursday is 5:20 p.m. (PST). Approximate first-race post time on Friday and Saturday is 5:40 p.m.

On Saturdays, Cal Expo offers a reduced 15 percent takeout rate on both the Early & Late Pick-4 wagers with both Pick-4’s now having a $10,000 gross guaranteed pool.
