After losing a heartbreaker to Mister Herbie in last Monday’s Preferred Trot, Andover America dodged that rival this week and took full advantage of his absence

Sent off as the 2-5 favourite in Monday’s $38,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Racetrack, Andover America resorted to his come-from-behind ways and used them to perfection for Team Baillargeon.

The six-year-old son of Andover Hall-Armbro Array settled into the five-hole in the early stages of the seven-horse affair, with Zeus Lightning and Protégé Seelster locking up in a first quarter battle. They zipped by the first post in :27.2 before Protégé Seelster cleared to the position of command. Once in command, he strolled through middle splits of :58.1 and 1:28. Ericskarri applied mild pressure to the leader around the final turn, and while he did Mario Baillargeon latched onto cover from second over.

Baillargeon wheeled off cover with Andover America coming out of the final turn, and the gelding had no problem rushing to the lead and finding the line with three-quarters of a length to spare in a time of 1:56.2. Star Ruffnready came on late to grab the runner-up award, with Zeus Lightning re-emerging to finish third.

MC Trade Enterprises Inc of Davie, FL owns the photogenic performer, who improved his 2011 record to 12-7-3 in 26 starts. The 41-time winner has stashed away more than $495,000 in his career.
