When it comes to winning races, not many horses do it any better these days than pacing gelding Mach One.

The three-year-old son of Mach Three-Sold Out made his eighth straight trip to victory lane during Thursday’s card at Flamboro Downs.

Mach One got away fourth in his $8,100 assignment, but he commenced a first-over bid on the way to the half for driver Scott Young. They were second and pressing the leader at the three-quarter pole, and a :29.4 closing quarter was good enough for Mach One to hold on for the neck decision over My Teen Idol in 1:58.

Mark Winacott trains the photogenic performer for Michael Timpano and Seaspray Stables Ltd. The victory improved the gelding’s 2017 record to 9-2-1 from 15 trips to the track. He’s banked over $37,000 to date.

Thursday’s card also featured the second leg of the Alliance Series for filly and mare claiming pacers.

Ten Carat was a repeat winner in the series thanks to her 1:58.1 triumph in the first of two $6,000 divisions.

Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, Ten Carat got away fifth before advancing second over while racing fourth on the way to the half. Robert Shepherd had the eventual winner on the lead by a length while racing parked out at the three-quarter pole, and they used a :28.1 closing panel to win by 4-3/4 lengths over Maudail Mac. Emma Ivy was third.

Trainer Rod Boyd co-owns the three-year-old daughter of Well Said-More Diamonds with 83 Racing and Glenn Bechtel. She’s a three-time winner this season and a five-time winner to date. The lion’s share of the loot lifted her overall cash stash to $34,580.

Ritasrockinheaven also made it back-to-back wins in the series thanks to her 1:58.4 score in the second division.

Colin Kelly worked out a two-hole trip for the three-year-old daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven-Rita Hall, and she used a :30.4 closing quarter to parlay her pocket ride into a one-length triumph over Bag Of Cards. Taking home the show dough was Shanias Image.

Owned and trained by Craig Gilmour of Fergus, Ont., Ritasrockinheaven improved her 2017 record to 4-8-7 from 29 starts with the win. She’s stashed away close to $28,000 in her career.
