Temporal Hanover, the second-richest son of world champion trotting stallion Walner, will stand his debut stud season in 2023.
Kountry Lane Standardbreds confirmed on Thursday, Dec. 1 that the near millionaire-earning colt will assume the next chapter of his promising career at Premier Acres in Middlebury, Indiana.
"There was huge interest shown from studs across the country for the Marcus Melander-trained Grand Circuit performer," said Kountry Lane Standardbreds in a release. "Temporal Hanover is well-placed to take advantage of the growing and lucrative Indiana Sires Stakes program and has the race credentials, pedigree and perfectly packaged physique to immediately impact the studbook.
"As the first son of boom sire Walner to assume stud duties in the United States, Temporal Hanover will be sure to attract huge interest from trotting breeders looking to upgrade their bloodlines."
Walner’s impact on the studbook has been nothing short of remarkable, with his first two crops taking the trotting world by storm. The magnificent son of Chapter Seven wasted no time in knocking his own sire off his perch, leading the money list for two-year-old trotters with his debut crop in 2021 with world champion juveniles such as King Of The North (3,1:50.3, $1,370,242), Venerable (2,1:52, $1,348,176) and Jiggy Jog S (2,1:52.2; 3,1:50, $1,250,293).
Walner further asserted his dominant arrival by once again leading the money list for two and three-year-old trotters. Incredibly, with 78 fewer starters and only one-fifth of the foals on the ground, Walner currently sits in third place on the all-age money list behind the great Muscle Hill, with less than $100,000 in earnings separating them (as of Nov. 30).
Temporal Hanover is out of the unraced Cantab Hall mare, Think Twice, who is a half-sister to the 2006 U.S. Horse of the Year, Glidemaster (1:51.1, $2,038,575) as well as stakes-winning Muscle Hill colt, Canepa Hanover (1:51.1, $338,906). The dam of Think Twice, Cressida Hanover (by Mr Lavec), is a half-sister to Cynara Hanover (by Super Bowl), grand dam of dual hemisphere champion and Elitloppet-winning stallion Nuncio (by Andover Hall). With a deep maternal pedigree full of champion trotters, it is little wonder Temporal Hanover was one of the best juvenile trotters in his crop that included the likes of King Of The North, Jiggy Jog S and Cool Papa Bell.
As a two-year-old, Temporal Hanover started 12 times with five wins, the fastest a 1:53.2 victory at The Red Mile. He won a $75,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes leg, a $62,307 division of the Champlain Stakes, two $25,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes legs and his $30,000 elimination of the William Wellwood. He was second in the $200,000 NJSS final.
In 2022, Temporal Hanover had four wins, six seconds and one third-place finish in 13 starts. He was victorious in the $310,000 Zweig Memorial in a career-best 1:52.2 and the $300,000 Earle Beal Jr. Memorial. He was also second in the $430,000 Kentucky Futurity, the $275,000 NJ Classic, the $240,000 NJSS final, the $125,000 Stanley Dancer Memorial, the $118,500 Bluegrass Stakes, a $100,000 Hambletonian elimination and was third in the $1 million Hambletonian final.
