Charlottetown Driving Park's leading reinsman Marc Campbell boosted his local win total to 116 with five victories during Saturday afternoon's 13-race program to put him within six wins of equalling his own single-season track record.

Campbell earned his first victory of the day in the third race aboard the Patrick Murphy-trained N Xample Deal ($4.40). He later won three in a row beginning in race six with Howmac Royale ($6.80) for conditioner Earl Watts, sophomore colt Stimulus Bill ($3.30) for trainer Darren Smith, and Zanzibar ($5) for trainer Paul Morrison. Campbell's final victory was with Trevor Hicken trainee Pan Cushion ($3.80) in the 11th race.

The 28-year-old horseman set the 122 CDP record for most driving wins in a season in 2011.

He is currently on track for a career year with his 2012 win count climbing to 272 and purse earnings totalling $456,465.

This week's $1,500 Open Trot went to Wendell MacDonald's Caliban Hanover ($6.20) and trainer-driver Ronnie Gass in 2:02.1. The victory was the seven-year-old Andover Hall gelding's eighth this year and 31st lifetime.

There are just five cards remaining in 2012. Live racing resumes at CDP next Saturday, December 8.
