Sears To Drive Friday

Trot Insider has learned that driver Brian Sears has chosen not to appeal his 15-day suspension announced this past Saturday, but he will still drive trotting mare Bee A Magician in Friday's TVG Mares Open Final at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Sears met with New Jersey Racing Commission officials on Wednesday, where it was determined that he would serve his suspension in December. The suspension is from the Commission, and thus would be reciprocated by other racing commissions in jurisdictions other than New Jersey.

The suspension comes from a race this past Friday at The Meadowlands where the NJRC ruled Sears showed a "lack of judgment in his driving performance" pertaining to his drive of Bee A Magician. Trainer Richard 'Nifty' Norman had suggested to Sears before the race that the mare not be raced on the front end since she had been experiencing some issues with tying up. She finished a hard-closing fourth.

This Friday, those same six trotting mares line up in the $200,000 TVG Mares Open Final.

1. White Becomes Her - Br. Miller - B. Baillargeon - 20-1
2. Harley Momma - Sc. Zeron - N. Daley - 30-1
3. Handover Belle - Ya. Gingras - R. Burke - 10-1
4. Bee A Magician - Br. Sears - R. Norman - 4-5
5. Shake It Cerry - Da. Miller - J. Takter - 7-5
6. Classic Martine - Ti. Tetrick - S. Elliott - 8-1

It's one of four lucrative stakes finals on Ladies' Night at The Meadowlands, with the TVG Open Pacing Mares Final, the Goldsmith Maid Final and the Three Diamonds Final headlining the card.
