Monday’s twelve-race card at The Raceway at The Western Fair District featured wall-to-wall Preferred events, with the featured tilts of the day going to Rainbow Gold and Kendal Gustav.

Rainbow Gold rolled to a 1:58 score in the $8,000 Preferred-2 for trotters for the tandem of owner/driver Dennis Duford and trainer Ashley Duford. The six-year-old son of Thunder Road-Incredible Gold sliced out fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.4 before cruising home in :30.1 to secure the win. Cimeronken was 6-1/2 lengths back in second, with Winzel taking home third prize.

Sent off at odds of 3-1, Rainbow Gold won for the sixth time this season and for the 20th time in his career. The lion’s share of the purse bumped the gelding’s lifetime earnings in excess of $100,000.

Kendal Gustav exploded off cover in the backstretch and drew clear to win by six lengths in the $8,000 Preferred-2 for pacers. Lorne House tracked cover with the Scott McNiven pupil before pulling the trigger three-wide on the way to the three-quarter pole. A :29.1 final quarter helped propel him to the 1:55 victory over Just Crowned and Live And Learn.

Scott McNiven, Tom Brodhurst and Shirley Griffen share ownership on the four-year-old son of Life Sign-City Of Dreams, who won for the 16th time in his career. He’s put together a 6-for-29 record this year while banking just over $40,000. He’s stashed away $112,983 to date.

The half-mile oval also hosted a trio of $5,000 Preferred-3 events, with top prize going to Button Up (1:57.3), Savthelstdancforme (2:01.1) and Mariner Seelster (1:56.2).
