Fillies reigned supreme in the market of the fourth session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 6) with pacing filly Amsterdam garnering the highest purchase price of the day.
Purchased as Hip No. 635 by Amanda Fine of Guelph, Ont. from consignor Diamond Creek Farms, Amsterdam exited the ring for $90,000. She is a daughter of Sweet Lou from the Somebeachsomewhere mare Someomensomewhere, a Breeders Crown winner at two and a foal from millionaire mare Omen Hanover.
The Chapter Seven filly Oaks In Kountry, Hip No. 764, led trotting fillies on the day when leaving at the hammer's slam to $82,000. M&L of Delaware / Alabama Harness Association of Wilmington, Del. acquired the filly from Anvil And Lace Farm. She is the first foal out of the Father Patrick mare Whispering Oaks, a stakes winner and earner of over $300,000.
Tactical Strike sold for the third-highest tag of the session when auctioning for $80,000 to one Gino Toscani of Mount Hope, Ont. The filly, consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency and selling as Hip No. 748, is by Tactical Landing and the first foal out of the Holiday Road mare Sorceress Seelster. Her great granddam Higher Love is a half sister to champion mare Lookout Victory, a winner of over a million dollars.
Another Tactical Landing daughter attracted a high price in Black Button, Hip No. 693, who sold for $75,000 to Douglas Overhiser of New Smyrna, Fla. Consigned by Peninsula Farm, she is the fourth foal out of the Andover Hall mare Love U Overandover, who is a half sister to unplaced mare Luv U All – dam of 2021 Hambletonian winner Captain Corey.
Next in the ring came another yearling for $75,000: The Bettors Wish filly Desirous, Hip No. 694. Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown, Pa. signed the slip on the Hunterton Sales Agency-consigned filly who is the ninth foal from the Art Major mare Lovely Assistant, a half sister to millionaire Idyllic. The yearling is also a half sister to world champion Somestarsomewhere.
Session four beat 2021's sales figure despite one less yearling going to auction. From 164 yearlings, sales grossed $4,946,000 for an average of $30,159, besting 2021's gross of $4,771,000 from 165 yearlings for an average of $28,915. The 2022 sale has already beat 2021's total with one session still to go on Friday. With over 100 fewer horses selling in 2022, the sale has grossed $60,440,000 for an average price of $80,802. Through five sessions in 2021, the sale handled $56,687,500 and an average price of $65,687.
