The Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industy Association (PEIHRIA), in partnership with the Prince Edward Island Standardbred Breeders Association (PEISBA), has announced a Trot Broodmare Purchase Assistance Program for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
This program is open to breeders who are residents of P.E.I. only. There will be five slots available in the program. The program will pay 50 per cent of the purchase price of an in-foal mare to a maximum of $6,000 or 50 per cent of the purchase price of a not-in-foal mare to a maximum of $6,000. In addition, those who are successful in the slot draw and purchase an in-foal mare will be eligible to receive an additional $2,500 when they register and enroll the live foal in the 2024 foal incentive program.
Program criteria and the application form are available on the PEIHRIA website by clicking here. Please read the criteria carefully to determine if you are eligible to apply. Applications close on Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. AST. A live draw will take place on Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. on the PEIHRIA Facebook page to determine the successful applicants. The successful applicants will be contacted by 5 p.m. AST on Nov. 3.
Those who were successful in the draw will have until March 1, 2024 to purchase a mare.
Unsuccessful applicants will be placed on an also eligible list. Should a slot become available after March 1, 2024, preference will be given to those on the also eligible list who meet the criteria and have purchased an in-foal trot mare.
