Lying In Cash made it two wins in a row at Northville Downs Saturday evening (Oct. 1) as the six-year-old gelding captured the featured $10,800 Open Pace in 1:54.3.

Driver Jason Merriman and Lying In Cash (Aracache Hanover-Jokerslitlwhitelie) left for the lead, yielded to last week's Open winner, Big Bang Boom, then popped out in the final turn to rocket past the leader for the victory by a margin of 1-1/4 lengths.

It was a special win for owner-trainer Techia Lohmann, who celebrated her 50th birthday this weekend. “I was nervous all day for Tucker’s (Lying In Cash’s nickname) race. I started to break his sister. We’re praying she has as much heart as he does!” said Lohmann. It was the 24th career victory for the winner."

The final four divisions of the $20,000 Great Lake Stakes for three-year-olds were held Saturday night as well, as non-wagering events. The three-year-old colts and geldings trot went to Hunkaaah  (Rompaway Wally-Easter Snowball) and driver Charles Taylor for trainer-owner John Goodyear in a time of 2:04.1. Hunkaaah was bred in Michigan by Christian Kauffman.

The filly trot was captured by Laurens Rose  (Southwind Russet-Bold Eminic) in 2:03.2 for winning owner-trainer Ken Ott and breeder Henry Detweiler.

Cee Bee Ghee Bee (Ghees House-Cher Bono) went wire to wire in the filly pace in 2:01.4 for driver-trainer Aaron Colley, who co-owns with partner and breeder D Balcom.

And finally, the fastest division went to Thorn Toad (Western Thorn-Native Hanover), who also wired his competition, in 1:56.4, in the colt pace, with driver/trainer Tim Roach who co-owns with Kyle Larner. Thorn Toad is bred by Libby Myers.

Northville Downs live racing resumes Friday, Oct. 7 with the $20,000 Michigan Breeders Futurity races starting at 5:30 p.m. (EDT) as non-wagering and then pari-mutuel racing starts at 7:30 p.m. (EDT). Friday night is also dollar night featuring $1 pop, popcorn, live racing programs and $2 hot dogs.
