Trot Insider has learned that driver Robert Shepherd was sent to hospital for observation after an accident involving three horses on Friday morning at Flamboro Downs.

In the fifth qualifier, Shepherd was first up and advancing with Wilde Allstar when his charge made a nasty break and got tangled up with second-over Platonic and driver James MacDonald. Warrawee Kin and driver Jeff Miller were also involved.

Reports from Flamboro indicate that all horses came out of the accident in decent shape and MacDonald was back in the bike for a schooler shortly after. While Shepherd did walk off the track to the paddock under his own power, he was sent to hospital for observation.

In March 2009, Shepherd broke two bones in his left leg in an accident at Woodbine Racetrack. Trot Insider will provide updates on Shepherd's condition when available.
