Chester invader Bertos Angel, a five-year-old Ken Warkentin mare out of the Incredible Abe mare Spark Of Abbey, won the $10,000 Open Trot in 2:02 for owner Scott D. Woogen at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (January 20)

.

It was the first win this season for Bertos Angel, who won her last two races last year at Chester to end the season.

Bertos Angel ($6), leaving from Post 6 and driven by reinsman Kevin Cummings, left alertly and settled in fourth as Jam And Jelly (Ron Beback, Jr.) hit the quarter-mile marker in :30.3, and the half in 1:01.4. Eventual second place finisher Hello Carlo (Jack Flanigen) was first over down the backstretch with Bertos Angel right behind. It was a good stretch battle between the top two that saw Bertos Angel prevail by 1-1/4 lengths at the wire. Isthatallyougot (Shawn Gray), the favourite in the race, finished third.

Trained by Lisa Lederhouse, it was the 12th lifetime win in 50 attempts for Bertos Angel, whose lifetime earnings surpassed the $200,000 mark.
