Rollwithhottytoddy and Jason Hughes were the stars of the show during a blustery afternoon card on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Driving away at the wire, Rollwithhottytoddy toyed with his rivals in the $3,600 Preferred Pace. The Trevor Hicken-owned and trained Rollwithhottytoddy left alertly from post five for driver Myles Heffernan Sr.,  but was forced to duck in the two-hole behind a fired up Three Trick Gainer (Jason Hughes) in the first turn. Three Trick Gainer commanded the lead for five-eighths of a mile through splits of :29 and :58 before Rollwithhottytoddy tipped out of the two-hole to surge past and trip the three-quarters in 1:27.4. Rollwithhottytoddy then paced away for an open-length victory in 1:56.1 for his 16th lifetime win with Mantario (Damian MacLellan) finishing second and Blood Money (Ken Murphy) third.

Trainer Hicken had a pair of winners on the day as three-year-old All Bets Off colt Logan Behold (Merner) won his third straight for the Montague, P.E.I. horseman and owner Kimberly Eaton of Ontario.

The Happy Retirement Dustlanemissmolly Pace was the $3,400 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace in the third dash of the afternoon. Sugar Bowl grabbed the glory in line to trainer-driver Hughes in a 1:56.1 clocking for owners Tommy Collings and Brian MacPhee over Chelski (Corey MacPherson) and Outrageous Style (Adam Merner).

Driver Hughes was sharp on the day as the O’Brien Award nominee also won with Spicey P (1:56.1) and Laughagain Hanover (1:58.3; pictured above) from his own stable. Hughes scored a pair of catch-driving victories with Jetster (1:59.2) for trainer Stanley Harper and Elm Grove Mistress (1:58.2) in the Race 14 finale for five winners on the day.

The winning continued for the Jeff Holmes stable of Pinette as he partnered with driver Brady Sweet for first-place finishes with Rock N Roll Cays (2:00.3) in Race 7 and Imalookertoo (1:56.4) in Race 12.

Fresh off being tied for winningest mare in Canada in 2023, Shes Rockandfame is putting together a fresh win streak as she won her second race from as many starts in 2024 on Saturday afternoon. Mark Bradley was in the driver’s seat for trainer Mike Dowling.

Live harness racing continues Saturday, Jan. 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
