After a few weeks on the sidelines following knee surgery, driver Jonathan Drury made a return to the races during the qualifying session on Friday, Jan. 12 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Last in action at the end of November 2023, Drury underwent arthroscopic surgery on Thursday, Nov. 30 to repair some cartilage damage behind his knee cap and a slight tear in the meniscus.

On Friday morning, Drury competed in all five qualifying dashes and guided home a pair of winners for trainer Carmen Auciello including Shadow In Red (1:56.1) in the fourth qualifier and Momas Son Byrne (1:55.3) in the finale.

"The knee felt really good qualifying," Drury told Trot Insider after the session. "I wouldn’t say it’s 100 percent yet but it’s getting close. It’s considerably better than what I was dealing with all summer."

Drury was set to return to action on Friday night at Mohawk but will instead return with three drives on Saturday, Jan. 13 before a full dance card on Monday, Jan. 15.
