Coffee Addict Grinds Out DQ Win

Coffee Addict may have raced well enough to win, but it took the disqualification of the horse who beat her to give her the official victory in Monday’s $20,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Coffee Addict and Wilbur Yoder were out before the three-eighths to pursue the leader, Set Me Up, only to fall a nose short at the wire. Set Me Up, however, was placed back to second for a pylon violation in the lane, giving Coffee Addict the win in 1:53.2. Hidden Land was a close-up third.

Norm Parker trains Coffee Addict, a six-year-old daughter of Dragon Again— Kahlua Queen who now boasts $439,679 in career earnings, for James C. Clarke, Sr. and Andrew Altobelli.

Mike Wilder collected three wins on the 15-race card.

THE MEADOWS TRIPLES TUESDAY PICK 4 GUARANTEE TO $15K

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has tripled -- to $15,000 -- the total-pool guarantee for its Tuesday, Jan. 12 Pick 4 wager as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.

While $5,000 Pick 4 guarantees are offered each card, The Meadows upped the ante when Monday’s Pick 4 was uncovered, resulting in a carryover of $4,104.20.

Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.

Tuesday’s program also features a carryover of $1,103.16 in the Pick 5, races 11-15. First post is 1:00 p.m.

Throughout January, The Meadows will offer Standardbred and Thoroughbred handicapping contests, both on track and at its Harmar location, for Racing Player Rewards members. The Meadows Racing Handicapping contest occurs each Wednesday. Entry is free, with the winner at each location earning 40,000 points and the overall winner collecting an additional 20,000 bonus points.

The Road to Louisville Thoroughbred handicapping contests, each featuring a Kentucky Derby prep, are set for Saturdays. Featured race Jan. 16 is the California Derby at Golden Gate. Entry fee is $5. Each location winner receives all entry fees collected plus 20,000 points while the overall winner receives an additional 20,000 bonus points.

For more information or to enter, visit the retail counter at either location.
