In Grand River Raceway’s latest episode of CRIBS, we had the privilege of spending an afternoon with Hall Of Famer Ron Waples
.
Waples’ collection is simply magnificent, and lovingly displayed and maintained by his wife Liz (no small task, bless her heart). Strolling from room to room, cameraman Tyler and I were in awe. It was like time-warping through four decades of top accomplishment at the highest echelon of the game.
Equally stunning, is Waples’ humility. His wares are weaved into the very heart of the home, adorning every room (yep, even THAT room). But there’s certainly nothing pompous or presumptuous about their presence. They seem as naturally settled as the furniture itself.
Maybe it’s the potpourri in the Hambletonian trophy. Or, the cooking utensils in the silver urn. Or, maybe it’s Waples’ own words: “Confuscious say man who looks back all the time gets kink in neck.”
