Didja know that when Well Said won the Meadowlands Pace in 1:47.3 on Saturday night, the fractions were identical to those posted by Jenna's Beach Boy 13 years ago when he paced in 1:47.3 at the Big M?
Yep, that's right: 26.1, 53.4, 1:20.2 and home in 1:47.3. Both horses, both miles.
This tidbit comes from my friend Anne Stephien of western New York.
Of course, Jenna was a 4-year-old when he did that and he shadowed Riyadh into the stretch in that race. On that June 22, 1996 program, the first five finishers paced in 1:49.1 or faster and Jenna was clear by a length at the wire.
Well Said won by six lengths after assuming control halfway through the race. In Saturday's Meadowlands Pace, the first five finishers paced in 1:49.4 or faster.
