Brennan Ban Lifted

Driver George Brennan, whose recently printed comments in the New York Times raised the ire of track operator Jeff Gural, is no longer persona non grata at Gural's three tracks.

Gural told Trot Insider last week that Brennan would be allowed to drive on Sunday, June 10 at Tioga Downs despite being barred from competition at the Meadowlands as of June 4. Gural operates both tracks as well as Vernon Downs.

In a May 31 New York Times article discussing the suspension of trainer Lou Pena, Brennan said “I just know his horses look really good, and they race for a long time. They’re throwing this guy to the wolves when the primary objective in this game is to win races. Obviously, someone is out to get him.”

“I was very offended by [Brennan's] remarks about the Pena suspension in the 'Times'," Gural told the North Jersey Record. "It seemed he was saying it is alright to cheat because the object is to win and this is not my philosophy or the impression I want my customers to have. While I agree the rules are confusing and should be uniform, there is no room for Mr. Brennan’s views on this subject.”

Brennan told Trot Insider on Monday that Gural had lifted the ban for all three tracks.

I disagree with Mr Gural..... George Brennan has as much right to an opinion, althought probably wrong, as Jeff Gural does. If the rules weren't confusing and were uniform we would not be having this conversation. The rule breakers would be gone and we would have a sport that wasn't teetering on the brink of extinction!

i agree with mr brennon. he has the right to voice his opinion with out any retaliation of any kind, horseman need to stick together against suc an atack on there livlyhoods.but will always stand alone, with out a voice.thank you mr brennon for standing up not only for lew but your rights to yor opinion, as to lew ,again, its about winning, he was asked to slow down and not win. but he kept winning and the new york racing board came after him.simple as that.thay found nothing, but kept looking after all tests found nothing, now all of a day was found 27 posatives, how strainge.,now the new york racing board now wants to make an example of him through there bullying and etimadation tactics. throwing the book at him with fines that are out of control.with out a hearing or trial in a court of law. not a kangaroo hearing of hearsay.yes i agree its about integraty of the sport, and that is a must at all times. but in lews case its a hate crime and witch hunt for not doing as his told.and integraty starts at the top.as well as the bottom of the pile, horseman are a breed of people that stand alone in times like these, and have little chance to defend there livlyhoods against such odds may have left the sport becose of things like this, as lawyers cost money and time away from the sport and when thay win there case, are still not welcomed as gural said there is no room for difference of an opinion.
