Brennan Ban Lifted

Driver George Brennan, whose recently printed comments in the New York Times raised the ire of track operator Jeff Gural, is no longer persona non grata at Gural's three tracks.

Gural told Trot Insider last week that Brennan would be allowed to drive on Sunday, June 10 at Tioga Downs despite being barred from competition at the Meadowlands as of June 4. Gural operates both tracks as well as Vernon Downs.

In a May 31 New York Times article discussing the suspension of trainer Lou Pena, Brennan said “I just know his horses look really good, and they race for a long time. They’re throwing this guy to the wolves when the primary objective in this game is to win races. Obviously, someone is out to get him.”

“I was very offended by [Brennan's] remarks about the Pena suspension in the 'Times'," Gural told the North Jersey Record. "It seemed he was saying it is alright to cheat because the object is to win and this is not my philosophy or the impression I want my customers to have. While I agree the rules are confusing and should be uniform, there is no room for Mr. Brennan’s views on this subject.”

Brennan told Trot Insider on Monday that Gural had lifted the ban for all three tracks.
