FBI Seizes Paperwork From Brooks

Reports indicate that federal investigators have seized legal documents and other material from David H. Brooks, even going through his courtroom wastebasket

.

According to Newsday, the latest investigation involves possible attempts at tampering with the jury. In addition, three people involved with Brooks' defense of the former body-armor magnate - brother Jeffrey Brooks, his girlfriend and paralegal Jil Klinkert as well as paralegal Aaron Hendel - were subpoenaed to appear today before a federal grand jury in order to provide fingerprints, handwriting samples and testimony.

On Monday, a federal marshal in charge of guarding Brooks said he had tried to conceal a note written in shorthand within a stack of legal documents handed to him by paralegal Hendel. U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert speculated that the note could be "an attempt to...influence jurors" or it could be meaningless.

At first, lead defense attorney Kenneth Ravenell stated the written note was a legal document. Brooks, however, is now reportedly maintaining that the note dealt with harness racing.
