According to a report, proceedings today in the federal trial of David Brooks came screeching to a standstill when the Central Islip, NY courtroom was cleared and Brooks hustled out after guards reportedly observed pills drop out of a pen he was fiddling with.

The report states that Brooks tried to cover the fallen pills with his foot. After being taken out of the courtroom, the article states that the pens -- which were still in the courtroom -- were examined. The examination of the pens produced 20 other pills.

The newsday.com article explains that proceedings did eventually resume. It is unknown at this time whether charges in relation to the incident will be filed.
