Droste Still Cashing On ‘The Captain’

Meadowlands Racetrack contest winner, Robert Droste of Clifton, New Jersey has a prize that just keeps on giving.

In a drawing on May 4, Droste won the grand prize in the “Win a Share of Captaintreacherous” promotion.

More than 10,000 entries were submitted over the course of several Saturday nights, and Droste’s name was selected to receive one percent of the pacer’s earnings for the remainder of his racing career.

Another $2,500 payday for the financial consultant came on Saturday, June 29 when superstar pacer Captaintreacherous overcame post nine on a sloppy track to capture the $500,000 Max C. Hempt Memorial at Pocono Downs.

The $250,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed the three-year-old colt’s 2013 earnings to $818,793, putting Droste’s share in excess of $8,000.

Droste’s biggest cheque came when Captaintreacherous won the $1,000,000 North America Cup at Mohawk on June 15.

Captaintreacherous puts his undefeated five-for-five season on the line in Saturday’s eliminations for the estimated $800,000 Meadowlands Pace.

Although guests were encouraged to enter every Saturday to increase their chances, Droste’s score was sheer destiny. He submitted only one ballot on the night of the drawing.

Droste has been a horseplayer at the Meadowlands Racetrack about a dozen times a year since the track opened in 1976, and he was actually in attendance on Opening Night.

Born and raised in Rutherford, Droste was an All-State baseball player and played for Farleigh Dickinson University for four years.

WHAT A CONTEST TO PARTICIPATE IN, It's about time you all did something to draw new faces to the racetracks. Blue Bonnets used to give away a new car every month. Have a good day.
