It has been confirmed that Standardbred trainer Carmine Fusco, 55, who races horses in New York and New Jersey, passed away this morning (Wednesday, March 18) after having tested positive for COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Fusco’s sister passed away last week, and it was later determined that she was positive for COVID-19.

The news of Fusco’s passing was confirmed by a member of his extended family, who is also the family’s lawyer, according to nj.com.

On Thursday (March 19), the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey publicly offered its deepest condolences to the Fusco family.

The SBOANJ stated that 'the devastation to one family is unfathomable and particularly personal, as the Fuscos are a large part of our local racing community.'

The SBOANJ also took the chance to remind its members that the organization is available to help if needed.

Trot Insider will update this story with more information when it becomes available.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Carmine Fusco.

Carmine's brother and well known horse trainer Vincent Fusco Jr, their mother and a sister has also passed away from COVID-19. It doesn't get much worse then this.
So much for one family to have to go thru.
