Woodbine will be celebrating “The World’s Fastest Standardbred” by giving the first 1,000 fans in the grandstand Saturday a free commemorative T-shirt. The superstar pacer will be competing in Saturday night’s $650,000 Canadian Pacing Derby.

Earlier this season, Bulldog Hanover became harness racing’s fastest horse by posting a mile of 1:45.4 on July 16. The four-year-old is co-owned and trained by Jack Darling of Cambridge, Ont., while prominent owner Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. also shares ownership.

Bulldog Hanover began his racing career in June 2020 at Woodbine Mohawk Park and has made 19 of his 31 career starts over the Campbellville, Ont. oval. ‘Bulldog’ currently sports career numbers of 23 wins and $1.6 million in earnings.

The $650,000 Canadian Pacing Derby joins the $610,000 Maple Leaf Trot as the main events for Saturday’s rich card at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Post time for the 12-race program is 7 p.m.

Doors open on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Going back to last Oct, Bulldog has now won 14 of his last 15 races, and he has surprisingly raced more times in his career (5) at Hoosier Park than he has at (4) The Meadowlands. He'll be back at Hoosier on Sept. 23 for The Hoosier Park Pacing Derby. Jack Darling said after last night's race that Bulldog will race 4 times in the next 5 weeks: At Scioto for The Ewart next Sat, at Hoosier Park on 9/23, at Dayton for The Dayton Derby on 10/1, and at The Red Mile for The Allerage on 10/9.

My friend Mike called me up and wanted to go to the races tonight, you can probably guess what the doctor said, as Mike had a double lung transplant 14 days ago.

I'm excited to see my friend today, I'll be stopping by Mohawk today to pick up a racing program for him, and hopefully a t-shirt. I'm equally excited about getting to watch a track record in the Canadian Pacing Derby. If I had to guess a time, I'm gonna go with 1:46.1. There's a lot of talent in this race.

I'll have another, Ontario needs racing.

Get well soon Mike , I will say Hi to Bulldog for you.
