No Contest Saturday At Georgian

A no contest was declared by the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario judges in the third race at Georgian Downs on Saturday (July 8) as a result of an incident occurring in the first turn.

Powder Play, driven by J Harris, got away last of the seven in the third race and broke stride going around the first turn. The horse had equipment issues while off stride, which resulted in the horse veering off the course and dumping Harris from the bike onto the grass at the infield. Powder Play continued loose on the track behind the horses still racing, though the field moved wide around the track through the final half-mile with several drivers ready to pull their horses up.

Because of the confusion caused by the loose horse along with the loose horse continuing through the race, the AGCO declared Race 3 a no contest, voiding the order of finish and refunding the $8,426 wagered on the event.

All horses and drivers were reported okay following the incident, though Harris booked off his remaining drives on Saturday night.
