On the verge of retirement, 14-year-old Hewitt A found his way into the lives of Ann Bower and her husband, Jerry Nicolas, in a way they never expected - catapulting them into horse ownership for the first time

.

In the March issue of Trot Magazine, Bower tells the tale of how she felt an instant connection with the veteran pacer just after one glance. “We went in to where his stall was...and we saw Hewitt standing there and his head came out the door. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Your story has a lot of similarities with the one we experienced back in 2006 where we claimed the 13 year old trotter Fruit Dothion at Hippodrome de Montreal. He was the first racing horse we ever bought and as soon as my wife saw him warming up before the race, she fell in love with him.
Fruit Dothion retired in December 2007 and my wife takes care of him since then. The transition between his racing life ( 322 starts) and his retirement life has been fairly smooth for the horse
Best of luck with Hewitt A!!!
