Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale followed a strong first session with an equally solid second session Saturday, October 30 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Bidding again reached new heights
as I Scoot Hanover colt Robins Rocket sold for a record $125,000 and the two-day sale saw the sale average improve dramatically over 2009 results. A total of 201 yearlings were sold Saturday for nearly $2.2 million for an average of $10,850.
One day after selling trotter Bluebird Soprano for a then record $107,000, a new standard was set within the first hour of Saturday’s session when Robins Rocket, cataloged as Hip 224, entered the sale ring. The grey colt, a full brother to former Indiana Sires Stakes champion and top open pacer Robin I Scoot, was highly sought after, with Tina Seekman signing the ticket for James Jesk’s Sawgrass Farms. The colt was consigned by Swiss Boarding Farm.
Shortly after, Panspacificflight colt Tyber Tyke was hammered down for a final bid of $75,000. Out of Artsplace mare Artbeat, the colt is a brother to ISS finals runner-up Michelles Hartbeat and producer Artbeats Yankee. Consigned by Homestead Acres, Tyber Tyke was purchased by Dorothy Miller.
Let Him Roll, another Panspacificflight colt, brought the third highest bid of the session when he was sold for $57,000. A brother to Review Stake winner Kayak Digidigy, Let Him Roll was consigned by Homestead Acres, agent for Cornerstone Stock Farm. The colt was purchased by Byron Hooley of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Rockmehome, a Rocky Balboa colt out of Cumin mare Rockabye Lady, was the top selling trotter in Saturday’s session. From the Pond-A-Acres consignment, Rockmehome was purchased for $45,000. Bobby Brower signed the ticket as agent for DM Stables.
Over the two-day event, Hoosier Classic sold 403 yearlings for a gross of $4.43 million, a significant increase over 2009, when 274 yearlings sold for just under $2.1 million. This year’s average of $11,000 per yearling produced an increase of 44 percent over one year earlier.
