Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale kicked off its two-day event Friday, October 29 with a strong first session. Bolstered by notable out-of-state horsemen looking to invest in Indiana’s lucrative program, yearlings brought record prices

Friday, with a Southwind Elian filly bringing a $107,000 final bid. All told, 202 yearlings passed through the sale ring Friday grossing $2.25 million. The session average of $11,149 signaled a 10.4 percent increase over 2009.

Bluebird Soprano, a full sister to Indiana Sires Stakes finals winner Bluebird Elian, topped all yearlings sold in the first session with a $107,000 final bid. Cataloged as Hip 65, the filly is out of Centre Island mare Debs Dalliance. Bluebird Soprano was consigned by Bluebird Meadows, and purchased by Thomas Riccolo of Morris, Illinois. Consigned by Edwin Graber, the colt was purchased via phone bid by Royal Palm Capital of Palm Beach, Florida. The Earl Of Stormont yearling is out of Yankee Glide mare Havannas Glider.

Consigned by In-Law Stable, Erv Miller signed the ticket as agent on the yearling for Ron Michelon. Jimmy Benro, a colt out of Artbeats Yankee (Electric Yankee), brought a $37,000 final bid. He was purchased by Perry Smith, agent for James Jesk’s Sawgrass Farms.

Easy On The Chips, from the first Indiana crop of Arts Chip, sold for $42,000. The first foal from Panderosa mare Easy On The Eyes was consigned by Schwartz Boarding Farm. The filly was purchased by Royal Palm Capital.
