Brethour Trio Primed To Proceed In Blizzard

2009 is already painting a pretty picture for a sophomore filly named Artists Dynasty.

In her first start as a three-year-old, the lightly-raced daughter of Real Artist scored a victory in the Blizzard Pacing series opener on New Year’s Day, in a new lifetime best mark of 1:54.3. Now, trainer and co-owner Murray Brethour is hoping to build on that promising start as he sends her postward in the $20,000 Blizzard second round on Thursday night.

Though Artists Dynasty has only six starts on her palette, she has two wins and two seconds to show for it, and has never failed to bring home a cheque. Small wonder the plain bay filly is the 3-1 favourite going into the second leg of this stakes series, especially having drawn post position #2 in the second of the two Blizzard divisions (Race 8, post time 9:43 p.m.).

She will have to contend, however, with stablemate and fellow first-round winner, Village Bolero, who held off all comers to win by a head in her division for linesman Rick Zeron. A daughter of The Panderosa, Village Bolero struggled in the Niagara Pacing Series last month at Woodbine, with a third her best placing, but showed considerable grit last week and may be coming into her own as a four-year-old.

In the first of the two Blizzard divisions on Thursday (Race 5, post time 8:46 p.m.), Brethour’s third entry, Katpandu, will once again face off against Mick Grant pupil, B M Mcw, who poked a nose of her rival in front last week to capture her division of the Blizzard opener, in a new lifetime clocking of 1:55.1.

Will their positions be reversed this week? Can Brethour make it a sweep with his three lasses? Catch the second leg of the Blizzard series on Thursday, January 8 at Woodbine to find out.
