Odds On Amethyst found himself in the role of the spoiler in Monday evening’s feature trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park thanks to his come from behind tally in a $28,000 conditioned event.
Heavily favoured Royal Witch stepped to the front and got away with facile fractions of :29.4 and :58.4 in the opening half, but she was then pressed hard around the final turn by On The Ropes.
Those two battled to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.1, with Odds On Amethyst riding cover from second over for trainer/driver Pat Hudon. Royal Witch put away On The Ropes, but she couldn’t fend off the late-rushing Odds On Amethyst who powered home in :27.3 to win by 2-1/2 lengths over B Yoyo in 1:54.2. Royal Witch weakened late and settled for third.
Hudon shares ownership on the nine-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Mystical Sunshine with William Cripps, Charles Gazzola and Adam Kean. The former O’Brien Award winner notched the 35th win of his career while pushing his career cash stash to $672,462.
